Ghost in the Shell goes to Hollywood

The outrage over this is unreal...
If you’re annoyed at the casting of the Ghost In The Shell film then you should probably go ahead and unfollow me or something. I have a little something to say on the matter that might hurt some special snowflake feelings.
I’m familiar with the franchise and I can tell you that the race of the characters is pretty fucking irrelevant to the plot. You’re all up in arms about Hollywood white-washing and how Scarlett stole a role that rightfully belonged to a Japanese woman. That’s utter bullshit.
The setting of Ghost in the Shell is an international one, and as such there is a mix of ethnicity among the actors cast in the film. The writers and the directors felt Scarlet suited the role of Motoko and wanted her because of her successful career and obvious acting capabilities.
People in Japan don’t have an issue with Scarlet’s casting as they assumed that was what would happen, and are frankly just excited that Ghost in the Shell is going to be some big time movie.
I think you need to get off your high horse and just accept it for what it is. If Masamune himself had an issue with the casting, he would have no doubt stepped out and said something. The publisher of the franchise, Kodansha has actively stated their support for the casting. The director of international business at Kodansha, Sam Yoshiba said as follows:
“Looking at her career so far, I think Scarlett Johansson is well cast. She has the cyberpunk feel. And we never imagined it would be a Japanese actress in the first place.”
In some cases, white-washing is a real problem that Hollywood need to get under control. But there are a lot of times that I agree and support the casting decisions made and think that people are overreacting just so that they can keep up their image of SJWs. People whine and complain about cis people playing trans characters or white people playing other ethnicity characters, but nobody ever complains about white characters being played by other ethnicity actors. In fact, that normally gets PRAISE. That pisses me off to not end. If you are going to whinge about the former, why won’t you whinge about the latter? In your perfect world, is every actor non-white regardless of the original characters and/or the creators decisions?
I could go on about this for a while, but instead I’m going to just stop here before I break something. Stop fucking whinging about everything. Kodansha is excited for Japanese media to get its chance in Hollywood and you’re all fucking ruining it for them by getting offended by a casting choice that they support.
I’m excited for the film and I’m going to fucking see it in gold class.
